WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) today announced the latest additions to his D.C. and New Jersey offices.

"In order to effectively advocate for the needs of New Jerseyans, it is important to have a strong team," Booker said. "I am pleased with our recent hires and look forward to working with them closely. Whether you meet a staffer in my state or Capitol Hill office, my team is an extension of my passion and commitment to New Jersey."

New hires include: Legislative Director Chris Slevin, Press Secretary Monique Waters, State Press Secretary Silvia Alvarez, State Project Director Zoe Baldwin and Legislative Assistants Charlotte Newman and Adam Zipkin.

Chris Slevin, Legislative Director
Chris Slevin most recently served as economic policy director for Senator Sherrod Brown, handling the Senator's trade, labor, and manufacturing portfolio, and was staff director of the Senate Banking Subcommittee on Economic Policy. He was also previously deputy director of Public Citizen's trade division, managing a coalition of labor unions, environmental organizations, and faith-based groups around trade issues. From 2000-2002, Slevin was an aide to then-West Orange Mayor and NJ State Assemblyman John F. McKeon. A native of South Orange, Slevin began his career working as a reporter for a number of New Jersey outlets. He studied at Villanova University and The George Washington University. He joins Senior Advisor Matt Klapper on the policy team.

Monique Waters, Press Secretary, Washington D.C. Office
Monique Waters most recently served as communications director for Congressman Cedric Richmond where she effectively advanced his priorities around flood insurance and disaster assistance. She also worked with former D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty as a spokesperson in his executive office. Waters attended Douglass College at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey where she graduated with honors from the School of Communication and Information. Silvia Alvarez, State Press Secretary
Silvia Alvarez most recently served as deputy communications director for Senator Booker during his senate campaign. Based in New Jersey, Silvia will focus on regional media engagement. Previously, she directed public affairs strategies at public relations firm Burson-Marsteller and has worked for former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Major League Baseball. Alvarez earned her Bachelor of Arts from Colgate University and a Master of Arts from Middlebury College.

Zoe Baldwin, State Project Director
Zoe Baldwin most recently served as the senior transportation specialist for Senator Frank Lautenberg. Previously, she was also the New Jersey advocate for the Tristate Transportation campaign and legislative director for state Senator Loretta Weinberg. Based in New Jersey, she will be overseeing all of Senator Booker's regional special projects.

Charlotte Newman, Legislative Assistant
Charlotte Newman previously advised three members of the House Committee on Financial Services, most recently serving as a senior legislative assistant for Congressman Dan Kildee. In her role advising the senator on economic issues including banking, budget, and tax, she also draws on prior experience in capital markets at State Street Bank. She will be advising the senator on economic issues including banking, budget and small business. Charlotte holds a B.A. from Wellesley College and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

Adam Zipkin, Legislative Assistant
Adam Zipkin most recently served as deputy mayor and director of economic development for the City of Newark, where he oversaw multiple divisions including housing, city planning and sustainability. He will be advising the senator on issues including the environment, agriculture and housing. Prior to serving the City of Newark, Adam was a practicing attorney who dedicated a substantial portion of his law practice to the pro bono representation of Newark residents in need.
