NEWARK, NJ – U.S. Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) will be joined by New Jersey women’s rights advocates today to discuss the "Not My Boss's Business Act."
The legislation, co-sponsored by Sen. Booker, was introduced last week as an immediate fix to protect coverage of health services from corporations who want to impose their beliefs on employees by denying benefits.
The bill was necessary after the Supreme Court's harmful ruling to women that said for-profit companies can deny contraceptive coverage under their company health plans if it goes against a sincerely held religious belief.
Women’s rights have been a top priority for Senator Booker in Washington, D.C. In April, Sen. Booker voted in support of the Paycheck Fairness Act to help close the income gap between men and women. In May, he supported increasing the minimum wage, which would give over 15 million women a raise, including more than one in five working mothers. He also supports expanding the Family and Medical Leave Act to give more flexibility to working mothers.
