Washington, DC – U.S. Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) issued the following statement:
“The bombing of a Coptic church in Cairo, Egypt, in which the lives of more than two dozen innocent worshippers were brutally taken should shock us all. Instead of coming together to celebrate this special and holy time of the year, the victims’ families will be grappling with a senseless tragedy. The Coptic tradition has been an integral part of Egyptian society for generations, contributing to the rich culture and history of the region. An attack against the Coptic community is an attack against all Egyptians.
“I hope that President Sisi will bring the perpetrators of this atrocity to justice and will take the necessary steps to protect groups that face threats and ensure security for all Egyptians. My prayers are with the victims, their families, and the entire Coptic community. The United States stands with them in the face of this heartbreaking tragedy.”
