WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) issued the following statement after voting against the confirmation of Rep. Mike Pompeo to be director of the Central Intelligence Agency:
“Given his extreme and unbounded views on issues ranging from the surveillance of Americans to support for ‘enhanced interrogation techniques’ like waterboarding, I voted against Congressman Pompeo’s confirmation as director of the Central Intelligence Agency. I worry that his approach to this job could threaten the Constitutional rights of Americans, hinder the collection of valuable intelligence, and undermine our national security. We need a CIA director who will respect the rule of law and safeguard the civil liberties of American citizens while relentlessly working to keep our country safe.”
