"The temporary funding bill that the Senate passed today is not a sustainable or responsible way to fund the federal government. I could not support a bill that was undermined by the inclusion of unnecessary and harmful provisions and failed to live up to our obligations to American miners.

"Miners and their families were let down today. This bill also contains a provision that rolls back critical rest rules for truck drivers. At a time when 4,000 people lose their lives annually and 100,000 are injured due to large truck crashes, it is imperative that Congress do more, not less, to improve safety on the roads. And finally, the continued inclusion of a provision to decrease transparency in corporate political spending is hardly draining the swamp.

"The antithesis of fiscal responsibility is continually funding the government with months-long stopgap measures that undermine the well-being of American workers and their families every step of the way."
