WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) issued the following statement regarding the National Mediation Board’s announcement that they will convene a public interest meeting on March 4th with parties involved in the NJ Transit labor negotiations.
"I welcome the National Mediation Board’s offer of public interest mediation in the NJ Transit labor dispute, and I am encouraged to see the parties take the NMB up on the offer,” said Sen. Booker. "With a service disruption looming, risking a complete catastrophe for New Jersey commuters and the regional economy, we simply cannot afford to stand idly by. It’s imperative we take every opportunity to find a path forward and reach a fair deal."
The National Mediation Board is an independent federal agency that facilitates labor-management relations in the railway and airline industries. The NMB is headed by a three-member board nominated by the President and confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
