Washington, DC—U.S. Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) issued the following statement on his vote against the re-nomination of Ajit Pai to serve as Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission.

“The chair of the FCC must be committed to prioritizing the interests of consumers over those of corporations, to creating a level playing field by preserving an open internet and expanding access to information, and to encouraging innovation and competition. Mr. Pai’s record shows no such commitment. His backwards thinking on net neutrality threatens to stifle innovation, his refusal to crack down on the prison payphone industry could enable even worse price gouging for the most vulnerable and their families, and his tolerance for outsized corporate consolidation threatens the competition that our economy needs to thrive and grow.”
