NEWARK, N.J. Today, U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued the following statement after American doctors who had been trapped in Gaza—including two from New Jersey, Adam Hamawy and Ghada AbuKuwaik—safely exited Gaza.

“I celebrate the safe departure of these great humanitarians who provided critical medical assistance amid extreme danger. Their courage and dedication to serving people in need are a reminder of the extraordinary contributions medical professionals and their families are making in Gaza and conflict zones around the world.

“My office worked closely with the State Department and my congressional colleagues to bring them home, and I’m grateful to the Biden Administration for ensuring the safe evacuation of these heroes.

“As we welcome them home, we must not lose sight of the devastating loss and suffering in Gaza that inspired their selfless acts of service. We must continue working to deliver much more humanitarian aid in tandem with a ceasefire that brings the hostages home and stops the suffering.”
