WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) released the following statement after voting to support the Senate passage of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, bipartisan legislation aimed at addressing the nation’s housing affordability crisis:
“We are facing an affordability crisis in this country, and families across New Jersey are struggling and feeling the pressure of rising housing costs. For years, I have worked in Congress to expand access to affordable housing and increase opportunities for homeownership, and this bill builds on those efforts and takes an important step forward in lowering housing costs and increasing housing supply for New Jerseyans.
“This bipartisan legislation will help communities build more homes and make meaningful reforms to ensure fairness in the home appraisal process. It also strengthens federal programs that help communities recover from disasters and invest in safer, more resilient housing. Additionally, the legislation takes steps to curb large corporate investors from driving up the cost of homes which makes it harder for working families to realize the dream of homeownership.
“While more work remains, this legislation represents meaningful progress. I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to ensure every New Jerseyan has access to a safe and affordable place to call home.”
