Washington, DC – U.S. Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) issued the following statement:

“The Clean Power Plan was a major step forward in our effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and fight climate change. Today's announcement that it will be repealed is a major step backwards, and will result in more extreme weather events and greater costs to our economy in the long run.

“Unfortunately, this announcement is anything but surprising coming from an administration that thinks climate change is a hoax and an EPA chief who has spent his career fighting for big oil companies and railing against the agency he now leads.

“If we're serious about making sure we sustain this planet for our kids and grandkids, and making sure the jobs of the future are developed on American soil, we have to get serious about fighting climate change. Sticking our heads in the sand and acting like the problem doesn't exist is plainly dangerous and short-sighted.”
