WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and chair of the Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Africa and Global Health Policy, issued the following statement:

“I condemn in the strongest terms efforts by military forces in Niger to overthrow the country’s democratically elected president. This forceful subversion of Niger’s constitutional order is an affront to the will of the Nigerien people, democratic principles, and the rule of law, and brazenly threatens peace and stability in Niger and the Sahel Region. President Mohamed Bazoum must be immediately released and democratic governance immediately restored.”
