Washington, DC – U.S. Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) issued the below statement following the release of the Congressional Budget Office’s report on the GOP health care bill:

“The independent experts at the nonpartisan CBO just confirmed Americans’ worst fears about Congressional Republicans’ latest attempt to give the wealthiest a huge tax cut by taking healthcare away from millions. The CBO also confirmed that President Trump’s promises of ‘no cuts’ to Medicaid and ‘great healthcare for much less money’ are completely broken by this bill.

“According to the CBO, Trumpcare 2.0 is even worse for Americans than Republicans’ last healthcare repeal bill.

“Depending on where you live, your healthcare costs may go up – particularly for older adults – or your state’s health insurance market may be thrown into chaos, jeopardizing your ability to afford health coverage at all if you have a pre-existing condition or get sick.

“Across the country, millions of Americans would be left with lower-quality, substandard insurance that may not even cover the health care services they need.

“And 23 million fewer people would have insurance coverage, including adults, children, and seniors who gained coverage for the first time thanks to the ACA’s expansion of Medicaid.

“Rather than working to deny quality health coverage to millions of everyday Americans, Congressional Republicans should abandon their efforts to repeal the ACA and focus on working with Democrats to actually improve healthcare and lower costs.”
