U.S. Sens. Cory Booker and Robert Menendez (both D-NJ) today applauded the confirmation of Judge Brian Martinotti to the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey.
“I am proud that the Senate voted overwhelmingly today to confirm Judge Brian R. Martinotti to the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey,” Sen. Booker said. “I was proud to recommend Judge Martinotti’s nomination to President Obama in 2015 as one of my first judicial recommendations. Judge Martinotti is a talented, experienced, and distinguished jurist and public servant who will serve honorably as a federal judge. I congratulate Judge Martinotti and his family on his confirmation.”
Booker continued, “Today’s vote couldn’t come at a more urgent time—Judge Martinotti’s nomination has been pending in the Senate for over a year, and 24 other judicial nominations are still pending before the Senate while 83 federal judgeships sit vacant nationwide. We simply cannot expect our federal judicial system to function as intended when these critical positions are left vacant for months and years at a time. It’s past time for Senate Republican leadership to bring the rest of the Senate’s pending judicial nominations up for a vote, including that of Judge Julien Neals.”
“In his life and in his career, Judge Martinotti has shown himself to be a man with the necessary wisdom, experience, and judicial temperament that the District Court requires,” Sen. Menendez said. “That is why I was so proud to join Senator Booker in recommending him to President Obama and I look forward to his service on the Federal bench.”
Brian Martinotti was nominated by President Obama to the US District Court for the District of New Jersey in June of 2015. Martinotti graduated from Fordham University in 1983 and Seton Hall Law School, cum laude, in 1986. He practiced as a Certified Civil Trial Attorney and was a partner at Beattie Padovano, LLC, until 2002, when he was appointed to the Superior Court of New Jersey, serving in the Civil Division. In 2009, Martinotti was appointed by the chief justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court as one of New Jersey’s three mass tort judges. Martinotti lives in Cliffside Park with his wife, Dana Martinotti, a member of the Cliffside Park Borough Council. Their son, Christian, serves in the United States Air Force; their daughter, Briana, attends Loyola University Maryland.
