WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), the top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Africa and Global Health Policy, issued the below statement following the deaths of three U.S. Army Special Forces troops killed in Niger during a training mission late yesterday.

“My thoughts and prayers go out to the families and loved ones of our brave service members killed in the line of duty in Niger. I also extend my prayers to those injured in the tragic incident and wish them a speedy recovery. Every day around the world, our troops risk their lives in dangerous places to keep us safe, and yesterday these three Green Berets made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of our nation. We must ensure that those who committed this violent assault are brought to justice.”

U.S. forces are in Niger to support counter-terrorism operations against various violent extremist organizations in the region.
