WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s decision to end the Affordable Care Act’s cost-sharing reduction payments:

“President Trump’s obsession with sabotaging the Affordable Care Act is going to hurt millions of Americans.

“Ending healthcare payments means many Americans will become uninsured next year, and many of those who don’t will see increased costs. The independent Congressional Budget Office estimates this move will increase the number of uninsured in this country by a million next year, while hiking premiums by 20 percent, on average.

“It will also destabilize a health insurance system that’s already been thrown into chaos by Trump and Congressional Republicans’ efforts to repeal and undermine the Affordable Care Act, leading to greater uncertainty for all and higher costs for many.

“The path forward is clear. Congressional Republicans must join with Democrats to undo the damage President Trump is doing to our healthcare system, and do it now.”
