Washington, DC – U.S. Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) issued the following statement after the U.S. Supreme Court once again upheld the Affordable Care Act and prevented a health care tax hike on millions of Americans:
“The Supreme Court has done the right thing by upholding a vital provision of the Affordable Care Act that provides tax credits for individuals who purchase health insurance through federally-run marketplaces in states like New Jersey. These tax credits keep health insurance affordable for working families. That’s why today is a good day for more than 172,000 people in New Jersey and millions of Americans who rely on the twenty-seven federally run marketplaces to provide access to affordable health coverage. This ruling helps ensure all Americans have access to quality health care they can afford.”
According to The Kaiser Family Foundation, an estimated 172,345 people in New Jersey participate in the state’s federally run health insurance marketplace and were at risk of losing their tax credits.
